Obituary of Anthony J. Nocito

Anthony J. Nocito, 67, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at his home in Mineola, New York. Born in Brooklyn on May 11, 1949, he was the son of the late Vincent and Elsie (Kofsky) Nocito. Best known as Tony, he was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn and Long Island. On October 9th 1971, he married JoAnn DeLuca. Together, in Mineola, they raised their 2 children. Tony started his career with New York Telephone Company (now Verizon), where he worked for 26 years. He continued working in the communications industry for Cablevision (now Altice), where he was currently employed. He also dedicated many hours of his time to several civic and volunteer organizations, such as the Historical Society of Mineola, the Mineola Mustang Run Committee, Italian American Civic Association of Mineola, Mineola Athletic Association, and Hometown Party of Mineola. He loved providing service to his community. He was a hardworking man who dedicated his life to providing for and loving his family. His favorite pastime was spending time with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Susan McCormack and her husband, John, of Glen Cove, NY; son, Anthony Nocito Jr., of North Potomac, MD; sisters, Dorothy Coppola, of Lutz, FL; Lillian Grabowski, of Manorville, NY; Maryann Shaffer, Lutz, FL; and brother Richard Sugarman, of Wilmington, VT. Tony was an adoring grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Nicole, Samantha, Jack, and Matthew. Friends may pay their respects on Sunday 10/23 and Monday 10/24 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at Weigand Brothers Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Avenue, Williston Park, NY 11596. 516-746-4484. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday 10/25 at 9:45 a.m., Corpus Christi Church, 155 Garfield Ave, Mineola, NY 11501.
