Obituary of Gerard F. Janssen
Janssen, Gerard “Gerry”, long time Mineola and Manhattan resident passed away peacefully after a long illness on November 22, 2018. He was sixty-six years old. Gerry loved music, theater and his friends. He started playing guitar at a young age and was active in St. Aidans Church. He studied voice on Long Island and then taught vocal technique in New York City to some prominent Rock singers including Cory Glover of “Living Color”, Regina Specter, Kevin and Michael Bacon (the Bacon Brothers) and John Mayer. It was in 1987 that Gerry met musical theater performer, Loria Parker who became his voice student and in 1988 his wife. Together they moved from New York City to Gerry’s family home in Mineola in 1991. Together they cared for Gerry’s late mother, Cecelia Janssen, until her death in 1995. Gerry continued teaching voice and also formed his business as a handyman, “Let Gerry Fix It.” Together Gerry and Loria cared for Loria’s family and many, many cats. Gerry is survived by Loria Parker Janssen, his nephew Odin O. Gray of Sillsburgh PA, many wonderful loving friends, neighbors and around 6 precious cats. He will be greatly missed by them all.
