Obituary of Peter Cooney

Private Immediate service only at this time. Peter was a kind, thoughtful, loving, big hearted soul. He worked hard his whole life as a master builder and was loved and respected by his crew and all of the clients who were the recipients of his talent. Peter loved to garden and spend time cheering on his favorite teams, the Jets and the Mets with Lorraine and her mom, Veronica. He was a loving spouse, son, brother and uncle who never missed a celebration with his large family. Parties and family cruises were made more special by his presence. He always had a kind word, an amusing story, strong shoulder to lean on and a big smile to brighten your day. He liked to work out at Kings Point Fitness, the gym owned by his brother Jerry and could often be found enjoying a poker game with the guys. He is survived by his former wife Lorraine Kozlowski, sister Elise Fleszar, brother John Cooney and his wife Lenore Weisse, sister Mary Flynn and her husband Bob Flynn, sister Jeannie Rhodes and her husband Gary Rhodes and brother Jerry Cooney and his wife Daniela Bivona. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews: Erin Mendoza, Amber Flynn, Matt Flynn, Dan and Christie Rhodes, Alessia, Alivia and Sofia Cooney. He is predeceased by his mother Carmen Cooney, father Gerald Cooney and brother Thomas Cooney. He was stricken with the Corona virus pandemic and taken from his loved ones far too soon. He will be sorely missed.
