Elvira Foldes (1923-2020)
Elvira Foldes passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Fulton Commons Care Center in East Meadow, NY. Elvira was born in Ploiesti, Romania the daughter of Anton and Smaranda Georgescu. She was the youngest of six children. She received her accounting degree from the University of Bucharest, where she met the love of her life Francis Foldes. They were united in matrimony in Ploiesti in 1948 after which they moved to Cluj, Romania, where his family lived. He preceded her in death in 1979. They were married for a wonderful, but short 31 years.
After they immigrated to New York City in 1971, Elvira worked multiple jobs to support her children and the family. Cleaning someone’s house was not beyond her; however her accounting skills were more enduring. She dedicated 25 years to the Moba Company in the Jewelry District of NYC. Her hard work, sense of duty and keen diplomatic skills, were highly respected by the people she worked with, who eventually became her second family.
Elvira loved all animals and especially dogs. Her love of travel took her many places in the US, together with her husband, with her son and especially with her daughter. Willie Nelson’s “On the road again” was the girls favorite song while roaming the world. Even after being admitted to the nursing home, she would constantly ask: Where is the car? Where are we going? She was a quintessential wanderer.
Elvira is survived by her children and their spouses: Elvira A. (Greg) Warren, Williston Park, NY; Francis (Jane) Foldes, Lexington, KY; loving grandsons Stephen (Emily) and David and three great-grandchildren: James, Eliza and Cora.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by all her siblings. Now they are all together again in Heaven. Let the tango dancing begin.
A celebration of Elvira’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of Elvira may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
