After nursing school she married Joseph Rizzo and lived in Brooklyn. In 1954 she gave birth to her only child Joseph. She and her family moved to Richmond Hill, Queens and Virginia began her work career at Jamaica Hospital. In addition, she also personally tended to those family members who needed medical care.
In 1975 Virginia and her family moved to Long Island where she regularly volunteered several days a week at the Sands Point Center for Health assisting residents. She was also a member of the Marion Guild at St. Paul the Apostle Church for over 30 years.
On a personal note, Virginia always enjoyed having family and friends to her home for holidays, birthdays, and social visits. Her door was always open to everyone.
