Obituary of Joan Maiorelli
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan was born Joan Rita Cevasco on February 22, 1931 to Fredrick Cevasco and Teresa Poggi. Joan had one brother, Fred, who they called Buddy. Joan grew up on Sackett Street in Brooklyn, where she had many fond memories, including dating the Cammareri Bakery son, who was featured in the movie, Moonstruck. In 1952, Joan graduated from Prospect Heights Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Joan was hired by North Shore Hospital as the head nurse of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Joan was there when they opened the doors and was the nurse who held the first baby born at the hospital. Joan received many gifts of thanks from her patients, who loved her and was held in high regard by her peers. In 1964, Joan married George Maiorelli and in 1966, they started their family with their first born daughter, Lisa. At that time, Joan stayed home to raise her family and five years later, she gave birth to their second daughter, Samantha, who completed their family. As time went on, Joan returned to work as an office manager at a doctor's office. Joan worked there until her retirement. Joan loved to knit, read, and being in her home. She also loved a good martini or cosmopolitan! Joan was a proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, who she loved dearly. Each had a turn at favorite. Joan will be united in heaven with her parents, her beloved husband, brother and his wife, Marie, (who was more like a sister), and her niece, Tracy, who she loved beyond words and spoke to daily. Joan left us as her daughters knew she would, in her own way. Joan was loved dearly and will be truly missed by many. Rest In Peace Joan Rita Cevasco Maiorelli, 12/27/20
