Obituary of Rita Kuriger
Rita Marie Kuriger was born on July 11th, 1928 to Felix and Corinne Begin, her French Canadian parents. The oldest of five children, her early life was spent at their family’s home on West 83rd St. She graduated from St. Jean Baptiste High School and worked as a bookkeeper at Lord and Taylor. In 1953 she married Jules Kuriger (d.2008) with whom she shared 55 years of loving marriage. Rita and Jules were parents to 6 children, Patricia (Richard), Barbara (Anthony), Teresa (Carl d.2020), Denise, John (Gina) and Karl (Julie) and 9 grandchildren Aubrey, Nicholas, Amanda, Andrew, Luke, Phillip, Angelina, Isabella, and Reina. She is survived by one brother, Raymond Begin (Rose).
In addition to her job as a full time homemaker, she was an active parishioner at St. Aidan Church. Among her many activities at St. Aidan's, she contributed many hours of knitting and crafting in support of Veterans groups and other charitable causes. Some of her favorite activities were bowling, Broadway shows, and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed meeting people--selling Avon for many years, Sundays at Jones Beach, and keeping up with the activities of so many grandchildren (and just as many grand pets).
She was generous in her care for others and is remembered for her warm and comforting presence. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to:
