It's been about two months now that I've had the strange feeling to look up Mr. Birbiglia. I started thinking of him often and wondered where he was. I was part of the last graduating class of 4th graders at P.S. 199 before he announced his retirement from the school. I remembered standing with him to pose for a picture and he was presented with a certificate or something if I'm not mistaken.
I remembered him as a kind principal, he always greeted the students cheerfully. I am saddened to find out of his passing, but I am happy to know he lived a long and fulfilling life. My condolences to his family.

So sorry for your loss. I was your dad’s secretary at P.S. 199 for several years. He was a great principal and I was fortunate to work for him. I have many good memories. Sincerely, Isabella Romeo

Along with being my uncle, Jack was also my godfather. When I was born he was in Korea during that war and sent me and my parents lovely letters quite regularly. I am more than grateful that I still have them. While the ink has faded, the sentiment has not. So dear Uncle please do not rest in peace but have a good old raucous reunion with your family and friends. Give my Mom and Dad a kiss for me but first, of course, have a martini. XXOO

My father in law Jack Birbiglia passed from this earth into eternity. I miss you already Jack. Thanks for teaching me how to ski, golf and play racquet ball. I will always remember our laughs on the slopes, the battles on the court, and our intense conversations about life. I am thankful that you indulged me as I spoke to you about Christ, the cross, the resurrection and the prophecy filled in the Word of God. I am thankful that you let me know that you “talk to JC often” as you put it. The thief on the cross said but one thing to the Lord of glory, “remember me” and found himself in paradise with Jesus. Enjoy the seafood marinara Jack until we meet again in heaven.

Jack was my grade school principal at PS199, I have fond memories of him and those days at that school. He was also a great friend of many decades to my mother Carol. Condolences to the Birbiglia family.
