Obituary of Linda Sue Goropeuschek

Linda Sue Goropeuschek

September 6, 1940-January 26, 2023

Linda was born in Jamaica Hospital and resided in St. Albans, New York during her early years. Her parents, Edna and Joseph Morrone, her brother Joseph “Mickey” Morrone, his wife Jody and their daughter Becca pre-deceased her. Linda is survived by her beloved sister, Pamela Morrone, her sons, Franz Goropeuschek and his wife Audrey of DeLand, Florida and Michael Goropeuschek and his wife Eileen of Levittown, New York. She treasured her grandchildren, Thomas Steinwall and his wife Ariel, Kathleen Steinwall, Rhiannon Chieffo and Craig Goropeuschek. Great grandson, Harrison, gave her joy. She adored her nieces, Christine Farley and her husband William, Geri Haight and her wife Christine Klaehn, Adrienne Morrone, Elise Tillie and her husband Chris. Linda's dear friend Claudia Salazar and her family cared for her with compassion in her later years.

Linda graduated from the Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing in 1960, earned a Bachelor's Degree from Long Island University/CW Post and a Master of Science degree from Adelphi University. Linda served for many years as a Delegate for the New York State Nursing Association and she was a past president of Adelphi University's chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She worked at hospitals in California, Virginia, the Carolinas and locally at LaGuardia Hospital as an Associate Director of Nursing, Kings County Hospital Center and North Central Bronx Hospital as a Director of Nursing. She retired as Jacobi Medical Center's Deputy Executive Director, responsible for Patient Care Services. She gave a voice to the underserved on her staff and also to the members of the communities surrounding these hospitals. Throughout her career, Linda inspired men and women to advance their careers to the highest levels, often beyond what they themselves believed they could attain.

As a dedicated community volunteer, Linda shared her talents with the Boy Scouts of America, tutored English language learners, taught Sunday school and was devoted to the children in Vacation Bible School. Linda was active in her church, The Life Lutheran Church in Old Westbury, New York. She received comfort and spiritual guidance from Pastor Justin Vetrano and Pastor Brian Crocitto. Linda's strong faith and love for her family sustained her. She loved her relationship with God, her church family, her work family, her friends and community. Strong and loving in every way, Linda has left memories of kindness and faith, intelligence and love.
