Obituary of Henry Wing Hong Lo

Henry Wing Hong Lo, 94, of Port Washington, New York passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, surrounded by his family. 

Henry was born in Southern China on February 20, 1929, and grew up in difficult times. He was a young teen resistance fighter and survivor against the Japanese invading armies during World War II, lived through China’s Civil War, and two pandemics. He was strong— and a fighter— to the end.

Henry moved to Hong Kong in his early 20’s and met Mary Chan. They married when he was 24. When living in Hong Kong, they had two children Agnes and Donny. In the early 1970’s, Henry and Mary moved to the United States, first to San Mateo, California then to New Hyde Park, New York. Their marriage lasted 70 years until Mary passed away last May.  Through all the years of their marriage, they were never separated and were always by each other’s side.

Henry was an entrepreneur and held many jobs. His roles included being a double-decker bus driver in Hong Kong, an auto instructor, a goods exporter, a chef, and a deli owner. Always hardworking, he started a trucking business in his 50’s delivering goods to Chinese restaurants across Long Island. He worked long hard days until his retirement at 65. His hobbies included cooking, watching NBA basketball, trading stocks, and spending quality time with his grandchildren.

Henry was an exceedingly kind and agreeable man, earning friendship and loyalty wherever he went.  Even after losing his ability to speak, he still gained the love of those who were taking care of him with his gentle nature.  He was charismatic and all who knew him commented on his soft, friendly smile. 

Henry is survived by his son Donny, daughter-in-law Susan, and their children, Ashley and Joshua, his daughter Agnes Au-Yeung, son-in-law, Tommy, and their children Daniel, his wife Mee-Yee, and great-granddaughter, Gwen, and Ada Xue and her husband, Shao.
