Obituary of Marion Louise Mullahey

Marion Mullahey a beacon of resilience and love, passed away at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by her family and those whose lives she touched. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Marion's life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and her profession.

Married to Kenneth Mullahey at the tender age of 19, Marion quickly embraced the joys and challenges of family life. Together, they welcomed three sons, Michael, Steven, and Peter into their world. The family's early days were spent in a modest basement apartment, but through hard work and determination, Marion and Kenneth moved their growing family into their own home in Brooklyn. Their dreams continued to blossom as they relocated to Garden City, only for their plans to be altered by Kenneth's tragic passing at the age of 32. Marion found herself a widow, faced with the daunting task of raising three young boys in a home that was still under renovation.

Yet, Marion's spirit remained unbroken. She tackled multiple jobs, including transcribing court recordings to keep her family afloat. Her thirst for knowledge and betterment led her to Hofstra University, where over eight years of night classes she earned her business degree. This accomplishment marked the beginning of a new chapter for Marion, leading her to a fulfilling career at Merrill Lynch, and later, following her childhood dream into nursing. Earning her nursing degree from Adelphi University at the age of 53 and a Master's in Nursing from Molloy College at the age of 62, Marion found her calling in the cardiac step-down unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she dedicated herself to helping others heal.

Marion's journey was not without its trials. She faced breast cancer and a stroke with the same resilience and grace that characterized her entire life. Even in the face of these challenges, Marion's commitment to education and caring for others never wavered. She continued to work and inspire those around her until her retirement at the age of 72. In her final years Marion bravely battled Alzheimer's, surrounded by the love
and support of her family.

Marion is lovingly remembered by her sons, Michael, Steven, and Peter, her grandchildren, Matthew, Erin (Joseph), Grace, Madison, McKenzie, Cole, and Tristan, her sister, Gail (Paul) and her nieces Cassie (Daniel), Alison (Fon). Each reflects a piece of Marion's enduring spirit and love. Marion's legacy is not just in the professional accolades she achieved or the adversities she overcame but,in the love, determination, and compassion she instilled in her family. Her story is one of remarkable strength, the power of education, and the unbreakable bonds of family, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Marion’s memory will be held in the hearts of her loved ones forever, a guiding light of what it means to live a life full of purpose, love, and resilience.
