Obituary of Maria Nancy Torres

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maria Nancy Torres, age 80, passed on the morning of May 5th, 2024, accompanied by her children. She was born on June 14, 1943 in Roldanillo, Colombia. Beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.

In 1973, she made the grand decision to come to New York, with all the hopes and dreams of a better life. Here she made deep roots, met and married Carlos A. Torres and they had 3 children, Karen, Royce and Johnny. She did the best that any mother could, caring solely for her family and children. Years later she would divorce. She became a flea market vendor, which was both a hardship for her but also became her passion. She loved to read her little book of Psalms and would love all the little messages God would send to her of hope. She is an incredible Abulelita, always making herself available the best she could to be there and help out with raising and caring for all her grandchildren; Emma, Royce, Ryan, Claire and Rosalia. They are the loves of her life. She loved to tend to all her plants and flowers. She definitely had a green thumb. She had such a strong and beautiful presence about her. She was always trying to be positive and hopeful. She learned to be as easy going as possible and patient. She worked hard for everything all her life and she did it with grace. She is such a strong woman with incredible will power. If she wanted it, she would find a way to get it. Which is why her passing is bittersweet…, although she was given the diagnosis of AML, and ended up with a severe infection, she never gave up the hope to beat it. None of us did…. She is now at rest in the loving company of her mother, Saulia, and her 2 sisters, Lia and Marleny. She will always be in our thoughts and hearts. “Mommy, siempre te llevaremos en nuestros pensamientos y en nuestro corazón”.
