Obituary of Gary J. Yansick
Gary Yansick passed on June 13, 2024 after bravely battling cancer for nine years. He was a big man with an even bigger heart and a booming voice that filled his home and his office with song. He was especially proud of having sung with the Queen Mary 2 Guest Choir on several occasions, one of which was accompanied by the UK’s National Symphony Orchestra.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Gary dedicated himself to his family. He was above all a truly good and decent man, with his infectious smile, and optimistic good nature endearing him to many.
Born in Queens, Gary lived in New Hyde Park. He met his wife, Susan, when he was 18 and she was 17. Marriage came after graduating from college with Gary earning an MBA from Hofstra University. They set up their home in New Hyde Park, and had two fine sons before eventually moving to Garden City.
Gary pursued a 37 year career with Nassau County and joined the Department of Public Works where he helped institute and implement financial programs and systems, becoming Director of Management Analysis II.
In addition to the time he spent with his family and on his career, Gary loved to travel the world, especially aboard cruise ships, visiting historical and cultural sites, and making friends from many countries around the globe. He also dabbled in community theater, and gardening, and was an avid New York Mets fan, attending innumerable games at both Shea Stadium and Citi Field.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Susan, with whom he recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary, his beloved sons David and Christopher, his dear daughter-in-law Amanda, and his much loved granddaughter, Alexandra, all of whom brought him great joy. He leaves behind him not only a legacy of love for the family he founded, but also lessons in maintaining courage, dignity, and grace in the face of overwhelming adversity. He will be missed beyond words.
