Obituary of Dorothy E. Troy
Dorothy Troy, age 104, of New Hyde Park, New York, passed away quietly in the home she lived in for the past 73 years.
Dorothy was born December 14,1920 to Elsie and John Deitz in Saint Louis, MO. She married Lester (Les) Moser in1946 and moved to New York City when Les got a job there. She
thought would be a short stay, however they stayed the rest of her life. Here she and Les raised three children – Larry, Joan (Mirea), and Marilyn, in a household filled with art, music and science.
Dorothy was an amazingly compassionate and adventurous soul. Along with raising the kids and working a full-time job she became proficient in sewing, tailoring, and pottery. She taught pottery classes and created her own, beautiful work.. She and Les were also wonderful dancers. Something they truly enjoyed together.
Her Methodist church was an important aspect of her life. She loved singing in the choir and developed lifelong friendships with church members.
As a grandmother she exceeded herself. Always taking the grandkids on adventures during the
summer all around Long Island and into New York City, along with teaching them the crafts she loved to do. They got to experience things most children do not.
After the passing of her first husband, much to her surprise, at the age of 76 Dorothy fell in love again and married William (Bill) Troy. She continued her adventurous life with the two of them buying a little motor home and traveling every year for several months. Each year they would go across a different part of the US, including Alaska, and also Canada. During their trips they visited family and friends and saw the sites.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, as well as her eight grandchildren: Joshua, Erin, Alaina, Jennifer, Matthew, Serena, Lauren, and Miles, and her eight great grandchildren.
