Obituary of Marie Callahan

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marie Bernadette Callahan (nee O'Donnell), beloved wife of John "Jack" (deceased), loving mother of Dennis (Eva), Michael, Irene Oldenburg (Lee), Marie Bowden (Jerry), Cecilia (deceased), and Martha Reina (Sandy). Doting grandmother and proud great grandmother of many. Eldest sister to ten vibrant and close siblings, each of whom had a special relationship close to Marie's heart. Her cup was full with her devotion to her family, to her Church and community of St. Aidan's Parish for nearly seventy years. Our mother has gone into the hands of her loving God and the warm embrace of her beloved Jack. Weigand Brothers Funeral Home, March 19th, 2021 2-4pm and also from 7-9pm. Mass will be held at St. Aidan's Church, Williston Park, on March 20th, 2021 at 9:45pm. Interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.

Introductory Rites

PASCHAL CANDLE – The Easter Candle is a sign to us of Christ’s undying presence of victory over sin and earth and of our shame in that victory by virtue of our initiation.

HOLY WATER – The blessing with holy water reminds us of the saving waters of Baptism, a proclamation of the death and life into which Marie entered through the waters of baptism.  The Church Community acknowledges Marie as one of our own, one who was welcomed in Baptism and who held an importance in the Church.

PALL BEARERS – Dennis Callahan, Michael Callahan, Shawn Callahan, John Bowden, Thomas Reina, Jack Reina

PLACING OF THE PALL – Julia King, Alexia King                                                             The Funeral Pall is a reminder of the white garment given at Baptism and a sign of life in Christ lived by Marie.

ENTRANCE PROCESSION – “Be Not Afraid”

Liturgy of the Word

The readings proclaim the paschal mystery, teach remembrance of the dead, convey the hope of being gathered together again in God’s kingdom, and encourage the witness of a Christian life. Above all, the readings tell of God’s design for a world in which suffering and death will relinquish their hold on all who God has called his own.

EULOGY / WORDS OF REMEMBRANCE – Martha Reina

FIRST READING – Wisdom 3:1-6, 9 – Read by Dennis Callahan

RESPONSORIAL PSALM – Through our psalm we express our grief and praise and acknowledge our Creator and Redeemer as the sure source of trust and hope in times of trial. “The Lord is My Shepherd”

SECOND READING – Revelation (21:1-5a, 6b-7) Read by Michael Callahan

GOSPEL AND HOMILY

Liturgy of the Eucharist

PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS – The gifts of bread and wine, which will become for us the gift of Eucharist.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER – We begin the Eucharistic service of praise and thanksgiving, the center of the entire celebration, the central prayer of worship. At the priest’s invitation we lift our hearts to God and unite with Him in His Sacrifice, celebrating His memorial in His holy meal and acknowledge with Him the wonderful words of God in our lives.

Communion Rite

THE LORD’S PRAYER / SIGN OF PEACE – As a community of Christians joined by the spirit in love, we express, deepen and restore peaceful unity by the sign of peace.
